Comments from Annual Report:

We were able to connect to the Internet and have free public access for our library patrons. We have also received some equipment through the Computers for Libraries program. This is helping in our effort to become automated.

At our annual meeting, we were approached by a local group from the high school about moving the public library in with the local high school library. Nothing to date has come of this and we are hoping that the notion will fade away.

Comments from Annual Report:

We are still anticipating automation at our library. 1998 has been the years we are going to try to develop some fundraising activities to get the funds for automation. We are working with the Peace Library System as well and may be able to include us in a pilot project for the Alberta Library Network. Circulations and memberships were down for 1997. This is a concern and we are working on ideas to help bring these statistics back up. One reason may be due to the decrease in population for the Town of Valleyview.

Our big fundraiser of the year raised over $10,000 to go towards automation of the library. These funds and APLEN grants will make it possible. We hope to be online by Fall of 2000. Partnering with local agencies in the community also gave us money to expand childrens programs.
