Inventory has been completed and is the first complete inventory done since the library started. Thus, our year end figures are as accurate as possible. A new catalogue was set up so that the junior and easy readers are now separated. All books are now spine-labeled.

Comments: The library has had a very successful year with circulation again increased over the previous year. Also, there was a large increase in interlibrary loans. An inventory has been completed, a junior card catalogue system, the art gallery has had some interesting displays. In 1983, we plan to display all local talent, such as native crafts, amateur photography, quilting, etc. These displays are proving very popular with the general public.

Comments from Annual Report:

Once again, a very successful year with increases in membership, circulation and visitors. Our projector provided by NALDS (?) has been rented 15 times. Story and craft times prove popular with the kids. Our art gallery still attracts many people and we’ve had some interesting displays in 1983, including native work, quilting, local photography, pottery, Danish embroidery. We held an opening night for Peace Country artist, Robert Guest who had a showing of his paintings in October. He generously donated one of his paintings to the gallery which will hopefully be the start of our permanent collection.

New date due labels in all books. Last summer hired a sub-librarian, Mrs. Sophie Major. She works one day a week and one Saturday per month and fills in for the librarian if sick or on vacation. We have also hired 2 students. One works Wednesday evenings and alternate Saturdays and the other works every other evening and every Saturday for four hours.

Comments from Annual Report:

We are planning to extend our opening hours soon by opening Mondays from Noon to 5 p.m. Also, we will be open on Saturdays for one more hour until 5 p.m. This project will run on a trial basis for approx. 6 months. One of our board members, Doris Crump, is on the Peace Regional Library Project steering committee and we are looking forward to the gradual development of this project. This year, our big project is to catalogue our paperbacks. This will be a big job for our student helpers.

Comments from Annual Report:

Our extended hours were well-received by the public and we will continue to open according to our new schedule. As our statistics show, libraries are getting more popular year by year. We are pleased with the progress of the Peace Regional Library Project now that it has moved into the interim stage.

The board agreed to pay tuition fees for library staff upon successful completion of library courses.

In June, the board agreed to submit $.05 per capita/$100  in support of the Peace Regional Library Steering Committee. Projected budget for the PRLP will be $5.50 per capita.
